Riddles of suburbs of Kyiv.

future future

We also suggest you to visit the Ukrainian Peredelkino - suburban town Irpen, which is just a 15-minute drive from Kyiv (by the way, "Irpen" was first mentioned in ancient Egyptian scrolls, as a country (city)where people worshipped wooden idols, sacred stumps - "Ir” is a “stump " in Greek). You can visit the House of Writers and see its old mansions. The famous industrialist Chokolov built the first of them for his lover, actress. Some legends about suicide and ghost are associated with the building, and the ghost, as writers living there tell, is wandering the corridors of the building. Many films about ancient life were taken on the territory of the House of Writers.

You stroll through the "Alley of young talents" and "Alley of classics", learn about famous writers and poets who lived in the House of and created its unique aura.

Now many talented writers live and work in Irpen. And not far from Irpin, in Vorzel, the House of Composers is situated. The names of Boris Pasternak and Heinrich Neuhaus are connected with Irpen. Just one summer spent near Kyiv (in the holiday village Irpen), turned the fate of Pasternak.

In 1930, staying in Irpen was significant for the poet : depression went away, new lines were born ("Doctor Zhivago"), he fell in love with Zinaida Neuhaus - the wife of a great musician, and in two years she became the wife of Pasternak. You can learn more about the story of love and jealousy, as well as to see the cottage, where Boris Pasternak lived eighty years ago …

With this tour, you can visit the old town of Bila Tserkva, an hour away from the capital. Many do not remember that Bila Tserkva, unlike Vasilkov, was the personal property of the family of Polish magnates the Branickis, that is why the district council was in Vasilkov, even though it was much smaller than the city built by the Branickis. Magnates built many churches, Orthodox and Catholic. In 1812 - the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, which now houses the House of Organ Music, one of the best in Europe. By the way, you can attend the concert in the Organ Hall, and the one is compared with the organ hall of famous Dome Cathedral!

In 1838 the Branickis built Preobrazhensky Cathedral, now the Cathedral, the center of a vast Bila Tserkva Diocese.

Alexandra Branickayas grandson -Vladislav Vladimirovich - built the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Zarechie District, one of the most beautiful in the area. Now the church is a nunnery.

The Branickis created unique arboretum "Alexandria" in Bila Tserkva which is not conceding the famous Sophia Park. This gem of nature was designed by Francis-Xavier for his wife Alexandra, and is named in her honor. However, there is evidence, though, in 1816, during a visit to the White Church of Tsar Alexander I, he was informed that the park is named after him.

In "Alexandria", which is already more than 210 years old, there were eight beautiful buildings, "Austeria" (main building), "Royal" and "Dance" pavilions, "Red House", "House of Gifts" ... All these buildings were lost , only the home of gardener Stange retained.

Alexander Pushkin was wandering through the alleys of the park, he was in love with Branicki`s daughter Elizabeth Vorontsova. After Odessa exile, he came to see his beloved Bila Tserkva. Perhaps Taras Shevchenko walked for the same paths when he came twice to Bila Tserkva to visit his friend Soshenko, the teacher of Bila Tserkva high school.

You will be able to visit this gem of nature and enjoy the remaining buildings of the magnates, visit the museum and even a ride through the park in an old carriage!

Why is the Branickis family history shrouded in mystery? In 1838, Bila Tserkva in Kyiv region the construction of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration on the place of the old St. Nicholas Church was over. The people believed: the one who would build a new church on the place of the old one, would die. And the same year Alexandra Branickaya, who dared to violate the ban, died. They buried her in the cathedral, which was built on her instructions and her resources. Alexandra’s grandson Xavier, sentenced to hard labor by the tsar, died in foreign countries without children. Part of the estates were confiscated, and in 1918 the estate Bila Tserkva subjected to barbaric looting and burning ...

A journalist from Marek Rushchyts wrote a book about the history of the Branickis and soon after it was published died. Leonid Koch, former deputy director for science of Bila Tserkva state museum first began studying the history of the family Branicki in our days. Soon after, he died under mysterious circumstances ...
